Golden Sunset

We cover a lot of serious topics on this blog because we believe they're really important, but from time to time it's nice to have a change of pace…

Each summer most of us get together for a "Tech Retreat " in which we brainstorm designs for new apps, experiment with emerging technologies, and intentionally push it all to the breaking point, and beyond.

This summer we chose the beach; next summer it'll be a lovely little town in the Adirondacks (surf and turf, to keep everyone happy).

Our goal is to take a break from heads-down coding to explore emerging technologies across many domains, including encryption, communications, data analysis and AI, with a focus on making advanced technology super-easy to use.

In industry jargon, we strive to be near the 'cutting edge', but short of the 'bleeding edge', with a sharp focus on finding ways to use new technology to enhance our core mission of creating tools to protect your privacy.

We'll talk about all that serious tech stuff in future blogs, but today because we're lucky enough to have a couple of amateur photographers among us, we want to do something fun by sharing some the scenic images they made during our breaks.

Sunset and Reeds

By their own modest admission, many of these photos were more the result of happenstance than any special photographic talent — sort of being in the right place at the right time, camera in hand.

But no matter, we think the results are lovely and we want to share them with you completely free for you to use in any way you'd like, commercial or private.  We posted some of them on social media over the last weeks, but here we've assembled them all in one place for the first time.

They make great desktop backgrounds, illustrations for blogs, backdrops for ads, whatever you'd like to do with them, all no-charge.

The only modification to any of these pictures, including the sunset above, is the overlay of the Merlin.World signature; all photos are otherwise exactly as they came out of the camera with no Photoshop enhancement of any kind. Rather, the rich color of subjects such as the sunset was better captured by slight underexposure (between half and one F-stop), a simple technique those among you who also like photography may want to try.

As embedded here each image is 600 pixels wide, but if you contact us we'll be happy to send you high-res wide-screen versions (3000 x 1688 pixels), free for the asking.

Each one has a little signature in the lower right corner, but you can request a version without it (in which case all we ask is that you credit Merlin.World in some other way).

Happy viewing!
